Last Week I Became a Statistic

One week ago I became a statistic.

A positive test for COVID-19. Was I sick and feeling fatigued? No.

In fact, the 3 days previously I had my temperature taken daily as we showed up for our Crossfit workouts in the morning. This picture was taken about 5 hours before I got tested. The only symptom I had was a sore throat that wasn’t going away (symptoms started 4 days before I was tested). I don’t usually get sick, but if I do, it would usually be in the form of a sore throat and it would go away in a couple days and that was all. Plus, I have had strep throat as an adult in 2013 (I think) and it wasn’t fun.

The only reason I got tested was because I was already at the clinic for school physicals for my boys. Yes, we had masks on (you have to wear them everywhere here in Hawaii) but I asked to get a throat swab for strep since I was already in the office and this sore throat was not going away. She agreed, and wanted to test for COVID as well. UGH. The test is just as bad as they say it is … going in BOTH nostrils and spending some time there as I was a patient that had symptoms.

I received a phone call at 9 p.m. that my results were positive. By this time, my husband wasn’t feeling well and was tested the next day, confirming that he, too was positive and joined me as a statistic. I also realized my sense of taste and smell was gone.

The boys tested negative and have had no symptoms. We are back to 14 days of quarantine, and we are now at the halfway point. The good news is we have gone through every box and our house is looking put together! My symptoms are gone for the most part, and my sense of taste and smell is coming back. My husband is feeling better today as he slept well for the first time in a week. He is feeling feverish, chills, muscle fatigue and a few more symptoms. To my knowledge, no one else has tested positive that we had contact with prior to our symptoms starting. I would love to re-test right now … do you think I would test positive or negative? What’s so magical about 14 days? I believe I will continue to be ‘symptom-free’ for the last half of my quarantine.

Anyway, this virus is very interesting and seems to be inconsistent. I consider myself one of the lucky ones with mild symptoms. In addition to our regular diets mostly consisting of whole food nutrition, we are taking lots of Vitamin C, D, Zinc, and Quercetin to boost our immunity.

I miss my friends! One week down, one week to go. Please continue to pray for healing for my husband. 🙏🏼

Has anyone else tested positive? I’d love to hear YOUR story!
